Toddington to Fancott Circular Walk


Starting in Toddington, a 3½ mile (6 km) walk over a mixture of grazing and arable fields, so it is firm when the ground is dry, but is more difficult after rain. The route links with the Fancott Wood and Meadows ( where an additional one mile loop can be added. The grazing fields contain livestock and dogs need to be kept under close control. This route is stile free, but there are 14 gates and some steps. In good weather with firm ground allow an hour and a half for the walk.

How To Get There By Car

The A5120 passes through Toddington which is just under a mile south west of junction 12 of the M1. There is restricted and unrestricted on-street parking around the centre of Toddington & Harlington. Other parking is available at the Toddington Village Hall, off Leighton Road, subject to functions.

Access Information:

Surface Types: You will walk across a variety of surface types: hard, firm with no stones greater than 5mm; hard, firm, some loose stones, no stones greater than 10mm; hard but variable surfaces with loose, variable sized stones; grass or uncultivated earth paths with no ruts, and with ruts/mud; cultivated farmland.
Linear Gradients: The steepest linear gradient is steeper than 1:6.
Cross Falls: You will encounter cross falls 1:9 and steeper.
Width Restrictions: None recorded.
Steps: There is a maximum step height of 400mm at the steps on and off the bridge over the River Flit.
Barriers: There are nine 1-way and two 2-way opening gates with a width of greater than 750mm, five kissing gates with a restriction of less than 1000mm and two staggered barriers with a minimum width restriction of less than than 950mm.

Refreshments: There are pubs, shops and cafes in Toddington village centre.
