Wilstead Wood is an attractive site which is being gradually restored to native woodland under 'The Ancient Woodland Project'. Wilstead Wood is managed by the Forestry Commission. The main drive is firmly surfaced and suitable for all weather walking but the side tracks can become very rutted and muddy in wet weather.

How To Get There By Car

Wilstead Wood lies to the south of Cotton End Road in the village of Wilstead. Wilstead is accessible either from the A6 or the A600 to the south of Bedford.
There is on road parking in Cotton End Road. Please park thoughtfully.

The site is accessed from the track leading off of Cotton End Road.

Access and General Information

Surface Types: You will walk across surface types ranging from hard and firm with no stones larger than 10mm, to hard and firm with some loose, variable sized stones, to grass or uncultivated earth paths with and without ruts and mud.
Linear Gradient: There is a short stretch with a linear gradient of steeper than 1:6 and a long stretch with a gradient of between 1:14-1:17.
Cross Falls: None recorded.
Width Restriction: There is a width restriction of 580mm at the entrance from the carriage drive, and one of 750mm at the entrance in Armstrong Close.
