Silsoe Walks

This series of walks links into the Public Rights of Way network to allow longer walks to be taken. Hedgerows are being restored and wide grass strips are being established to improve the landscape and increase wildlife. Access End Date 30.09.2009.

How To Get There By Car

Silsoe is to the south of Bedford on the A6, Bedford to Luton road.
Limited on road parking is available. Please park thoughtfully.

Start/Finish Point

Access is via the public bridleway at the end of West End Road at the southern end of the village.

Access and General Information

Length: 0.9 miles (1.5 km)
Surface Types: You can expect to walk across varied surfaces ranging from hard and firm with no stones greater than 5mm to hard and firm with no stones greater than 10mm to grass or uncultivated earth paths with and without ruts and mud.
Linear Gradient: The steepest linear gradient is 1:6-1:9 in the southern part of the site. There are also gradients of 1:10-1:13 and of 1:18 or less.
Cross Falls: The steepest cross fall is 1:9 or steeper. There are also cross falls of between 1:10-1:15, 1:16-1:20, 1:21-1:25 and of 1:26 or less. The steepest cross falls are on the path alongside Thrift Wood.
Width Restriction: There is a minimum width of 870mm between the hand rails on the bridge.
There are four steps up and down from the bridge with a maximum step height of 170mm.
