Two walks from Mowsbury Park to Renhold Brook and Salph End


Introduction

Two health walks, each of two miles, go from Mowsbury Park, Bedford to Reynold Brook and to Salph End respectively. They can be combined into a longer walk if you wish.


How To Get There by Passenger Transport
BY BUS Mowsbury park can be reached by bus from Bedford Town Centre. Bus 152 stops at Ravensden crossroads and Bus 153 stops at the Horse and Jockey in Ravensden. Telephone Bedfordshire Bus Information Line : 01234 228337, 8.30am 5pm open 5 days a week or Travel Line 0870 6082608.

How to Get There by Car
Mowsbury Park is situated off Wentworth Drive which can be accessed either from Kimbolton Road or Goldington Road.

This is a circular walk that starts at the car park at the main entrance to Mowsbury Park on Wentworth Drive, Bedford. Grid Ref TL066524.

Mowsbury Park to Reynold Brook Walk
From the car park (A), follow the path to the entrance of Putnoe Wood (B). Enter the wood and take the path to the left. Follow this path around the wood and exit at point (C). Turn left at (C) and follow the bridleway that runs between two hedgerows through the golf course. This path emerges onto farmland and then comes out onto Ravensden Road (D). Turn left and follow the pavement until the footpath sign on the opposite side of the road can be seen (E). Cross the road and follow the path down to Reynold Brook (F). Turn right and follow the brook, keeping the brook on your left, until you reach the corner of the second field (G). Turn right and follow the path back onto Ravensden Road (H). Turn right along the pavement until the footpath sign opposite is reached (I). Follow this path, keeping the hedge on your right, and cross a small bridge. The path passes through the corner of Marsh Wood (J) and then follows the outside of the wood, with the golf course to the left, to link up with the bridleway followed earlier (K). Turn left and follow the path back to Putnoe Wood (C) and from there on back to the starting point (A).


Mowsbury Park to Salph End Walk
From the car park (A), follow the path to the entrance of Putnoe Wood (B). Enter the wood and take the path to the left. Follow this path around the wood and exit at point (C). Turn left at (C) and follow the bridleway that runs between two hedgerows through the golf course. Look out for the waymark post at the corner of Marsh Wood (K). Turn right and follow this path, which skirts the edge of the wood. The path briefly passes through the wood (J) and emerges onto farmland, where it continues to the left. Cross a small bridge and carry on following the path up to Ravensden Road (I) Cross over the road and turn right, follow the pavement into Salph End. Shortly after crossing Green Lane, cross back over the road to the footpath sign (L). Follow the path between a fence and a row of conifer trees to a stile. Cross the stile and follow the path along the back of the gardens to the next field (M). Turn left and follow the path along the edge of the field. At the corner (N), turn left and continue on down to the bridge (O). Cross the bridge and turn right onto a bridleway. The bridleway, which has the school to the left and the golf course to the right, continues on back to Putnoe Wood (C). From here, follow the path back to the starting point (A).
